KGPA – 18th August 2017

We got off to a slow start this morning at KGPA due to golfers ahead being slow and then causing a cumulative hold up on the tee box. Apparently there was a 2-ball who had taken about 25 mins to clear the fairway on the first hole …. the club should never allow 2-balls at this time. The officious starter was quite rude and the club should really look into arranging the golf start a bit better and certainly make players who are late then go to the back of the line. The same happened when we did the cross over with other groups who had stopped for a break being let in and therefore holding us up again on the 10th tee box.

The course however was in great shape and the short par 3 on the Lakes Course is now finished and the green is now a lot flatter than it used to be.

Weather was hot and very humid making it a tiring round and with the delays our last group only finished about 2:00pm so it was a quick rush to the Pantai Seafood Restaurant before it closed.

The winner this week was Geoff McLaws with the best gross of the day 80 for 36 points. Runner up was Stan Constantinides with 94 for 34. Full results below:

Kundang Lakes Country Club – 11th August 2017

To call Kundang Lakes golf course a “Country Club” is like calling a Proton Saga a 5 Series BMW …… it is nowhere close and never will be. Anyway we played this course very probably and thankfully for the very last time. One 9 has now been abandoned and sold for housing development and so we had to play the second 9 twice from different tees. The level of maintenance has dropped badly and the course, paths and greens all in a very poor state.  The greens were so badly sanded, very rough and incredibly slow  ….. it was like putting in soft cement. The clubhouse (=shack) and changing rooms were abysmal – only about 3 locker keys working, limited towels and dirty and cold showers. So all in all a pretty depressing and abysmal experience topped off by a thunder and rain delay of 30 mins tucked up in the “clubhouse”.

We finished by 1:30 then drove to Sungai Buluh to the Heng Hin Seafood Restaurant for some much needed cold beer and food.

Richard Rodwell was our winner today with a score of 81 for 38 points. Runner up was Roger McGowan with 96 for 37. Best gross of the day was Richard Rodwell with his 81 and Robert Mulliss took the most golf award. Full scores below:

Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort – 4th August 2017

It was an overcast day when 11 players teed’ off at Bukit Jalil today starting on the back 9. The course was as tricky as usual and the greens were running rather quickly generating quite a few multiple putts from all players. We had a brief rain stop at the end of the first 9 holes but luckily it stopped fairly quickly.

We welcomed back one our Founder Members today with Allan McNicoll joining us on a one month trip out here to play golf.

It was rather slow going to day with a group of local players in front of our 3 flights moving at snail’s pace.

After the game we had an excellent lunch at Restoran East of Highway – well ordered again Richard!

The clear winner today was Peter Davies with an excellent 92 for 41 points, particularly when this included 3 blobs on the card! Runner up (on countback) was Ricardo Castro with 88 for 33 points with Geoff McLaws coming 3rd with 82 for 33 points. Geoff was best gross of the day with his 82 and Erol had the most golf played with 114 …. 60 on the front 9 so at least he was showing some improvement. Full results below :

Kinrara Golf Club – 28th July 2917

IMG_4689Kinrara Golf Club was very quiet today when our 3 full flights teed’ off at 8:00am for the July Monthly Scramble. This month we tried a slightly different formula with the low handicappers teeing off from the blue tees and the high handicappers from the white tees (more about this later).

Weather was good although by the end of the round it was rather hot. Pace was slow for some reason today … obviously many agonizing over their important putts.

The course was in good shape with no complaints from anyone.

The results clearly showed a bias for the high handicap players who all shot at least 6-10 points better than the low handicappers so the idae of playing off different tees did not work so we will drop this idea going forward.

The winners of the July Monthly Scramble were Peter Davies and Erol Akinci with a gross score of 77 and 43 points. Well done. Full results below:

KGSAAS – 21st July 2016

We had 15 players today at KGSAAS, playing the Sultan and Alam Shah 9’s. We got off at just after 8:00am on split tees. The Alam Shah 9 had sanded greens making it a little more difficult to putt. Otherwise course conditions were very good and the weather was great. Only compaint I had was that they had made a cut around the greens and this had created a raised edge which caught my ball on more than one occassion.

We were all back in the clubhouse by about 12:30 for lunch on the golfer’s terrace. Luch was washed down with the usual buy 2 get one free beer promotion.

Mike Williams was the clear winner today with an excellent gross 80 (best of the day) and 40 points ….. shame he couldn’t stick around to claim his free lunch. Runner up was Zak Zainal with 89 for 37.  Full results below :

KGPA – 14th July 2017

KGPA was in great shape today and the weather was really good …. clear blue skies and sunny …. although strangely enough at one point it rained for a while with not a dark cloud in the sky … strange! Course conditions were very good and the excellent maintenance at the course continues. We just need them to finish the work on the Par 3 Hole No 6 on the Lakes course and not have to play that stupid, short temporary green.

We had 12 players, the full dozen eggs, and we got off on the Lakes and Hills courses at just before 9:00am. We had a clear run with no hold ups round the course although our third flight were rather tardy and finished late with a late show at lunch.

We had 2 guests with us today …. Paul Collett joining the group for the first time and Phil Bond (guest of Glen Wombwell) joined us again.

Lunch was at Pantai Seafood and was excellent as usual – even Glen was happy as he ordered an extra type of fish which he liked rather than having to complain about the Nonya fish we usually get. Graham Cadman joined us for lunch – shame he couldn’t have joined us at the golf.

The winner today was Stuart Taylor with an excellent 85 for 41 points coming back to form after a few weeks of indifferent golf. Runner up was Ricardo Castro with 86 for 35 points. best gross of the day was Geoff McLaws with an 81. Full results below:

Rahman Putra – 7th July 2017

IMG_4417Rahman Putra Lakes Course is always a challenge and it certainly was today – setup for the club championship this weekend, the course was in tip-top condition with some aggressive tee positions, especially on the very first hole with a daunting carry over the water from an extreme right hand side tee box. The greens were really excellent and fairly fast.

The course played very tough so the scores as expected were not great.

We had 11 players and got off at 7:30am from 2 tee boxes after an efficient registration and some free gifts of towels and water plus some food vouchers!

However after 5 holes a rainstorm hit causing a 1 hour delay tucked up in a drinks shelter before we could restart.

As we came up the last hole a second large black cloud appeared with an even larger storm so we luckily just managed to finish before this arrived.

We had lunch at the clubhouse and with the food vouchers we received from checkin plus a kind donation from Brian Stubbs celebrating his birthday (Cheers Brian!!) we only had a nominal RM20 to pay.

The winner today with a mere 86 for 33 points was Richard Rodwell with Ricardo 2nd with 90 for 31. Best gross was Geoff McLaws with an 85. Full results below:
